On March 28th,
Legislator Steven J. Flotteron congratulated two exceptional charities in Suffolk
County. The inaugural
Mardi Gras Run to the Great South Bay Brewery was a success from all
standpoints, and enabled The Greater Long Island Runners Club to make $2,500 donations
to both the Bay Shore Athletic Sponsors and The Morgan Center in Brightwaters.
The Morgan Center is
dedicated to providing preschool age children who are undergoing treatment for
cancer the opportunity to interact and socialize in a safe environment.
Children on chemotherapy treatment have a suppressed immune system, and
otherwise could risk infection and serious illness by attending typical
preschool programs. The $2500 check was
accepted by Rod Zuch, the Founder of the Morgan Center, who currently serves as
one of the six Trustees.
President of the Bay
Shore Athletic Sponsors, Charlie Flood, accepted their $2,500 check. Their mission
is to provide conjunctive support to the interscholastic sports programs and
student athletes of the Bay Shore School District.
“Whenever we do an
event in a local area, we try to choose one or more local organizations as our
charitable beneficiaries,” said Running Club Race Director Ric DiVeglio. “Thanks
to the input of Great South Bay Brewery Founder Rick Sobotka, we were able to
choose two charities in the Bay Shore-Brightwaters area that are doing
extremely important work.”
