As the chair of the Legislature’s Education & Human Services Committee, Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) has been touring several non-profit agencies that receive County funding to provide food and other essentials to help feed the hungry. He recently visited the Hauppauge headquarters of two vital agencies providing these critical services: Long Island Cares and Island Harvest.

Long Island Cares is the regional food bank for Long Island and currently supports 390 community partners with nearly 7 million pounds of food in addition to operating an array of innovative programs including Baxter’s Pet Pantry, a mobile pantry, homeless outreach, veteran services, and nutrition education. Legislator Donnelly discussed these and other initiatives with LI Cares Executive Director Paule T. Pachter. For more information, go to: https://www.licares.org/

At Island Harvest, Legislator Donnelly met with President and CEO Randi Shubin Dresner and Vice President of Operations and Food Procurement Migdalia Otero. Island Harvest supplies hundreds of community-based nonprofit organizations on Long Island with critical food support to help stem the advancing tide of hunger. More information on Island Harvest is available at: https://www.islandharvest.org/

“A quarter-of-a-million Long Islanders who will go hungry this year which is why it is so critical to provide food and other essentials to affected community residents,” said Legislator Donnelly. “We are so fortunate to have local not for profit organizations like Long Island Cares and Island Harvest to provide vital assistance to those in need.”
