Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly  recently gathered with family, friends and fellow troop members of Deer Park resident and student Nicholas J. DiDomenico to witness and honor his recognition as an Eagle Scout, the highest recognized achievement bestowed by the Boy Scouts of America to its members. Mr. DiDomenico’s Court of Honor was held at the Deer Park Firehouse where he received many accolades for his distinction, including a Proclamation from Legislator Donnelly.

For his Eagle Scout project, Mr. DiDomenico focused on addressing the local hunger problem. He created, built and installed new shelves at the Deer Park Food Pantry and organized a community food drive for the Deer Park Food Pantry. He has also participated in numerous car washes to benefit charitable causes and assisted fellow Boy Scouts in Troop 86 in their Eagle Scout projects.

In addition to his service as a scout, Mr. DiDomenico has volunteered at the Upper Room Christian Church packing meals for the homeless, the Deer Park Community Center Haunted House, the Robert J. Downey 5K and the Deer Park Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast. He participated in the New York City Veterans Parade, the Town of Babylon POW/MIA Vigil Breakfast and the Deer Park Fire Department September 11th Remembrance Ceremony.

“Recent reports show that one in six Americans, or a quarter-of-a-million Long Islanders, will struggle with hunger each year, and Nicholas demonstrated incredible character and leadership in choosing to address this for his Eagle Scout project,” said Legislator Donnelly. “It was a privilege to join with his family, friends and neighbors in honoring and thanking him for all that he has done, and I know will continue to do, for the community.”
