Deer Park High School student Tianna Greene was recently honored by Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly as the District 17 winner of the 2018 Suffolk County “Truth about Stimulant Drinks” video contest. The presentation took place at the Deer Park School District Board Meeting in June.
In conjunction with a public awareness campaign, the County Legislature annually invites high school students to create a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) video incorporating their interpretation of the negative health effects associated with consuming stimulant drinks. These adverse health impacts may include: insomnia, headaches, restlessness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, irritability and rapid heartbeat.
A submission is selected from each legislative district to go on and compete at the County level where one video is ultimately chosen from amongst all of the district winners to be shown as a PSA on Cablevision. In 2015, the Deer Park High School SADD Club was named the County winner.
In recognition of this achievement, Legislator Donnelly presented both Tianna and the high school’s Business Development Department with Proclamations. Tianna worked under the tutelage of teacher Jill Perry-Eising who was mentioned in both Proclamations. Joining in honoring Tianna was School District Superintendent Eva J. Demyen.
“Stimulant drinks remain popular beverages, particularly among young people, despite the warnings and known potential for harmful side effects,” said Legislator Donnelly. “Tianna displayed superior artistry and creativity in her public service video and was the easy choice for district winner. I thank her and Ms. Perry-Eising for their participation.”
