Rocky Point , NY – On Friday, June 1st, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended North Shore Youth Council’s (NSYC) Open Mic Night held Rocky Point VFW Post #6249. The money raised at this event went towards suicide awareness programs. Most Friday evenings, NSYC sponsors an "Open Mic Night" at their recreation space at the Joseph A. Edgar Elementary School in Rocky Point. These events help encourage anyone interested to come and share music, poetry, comedy, and skits, allowing a place for the youth to get practice performing in front of a supportive and respectful audience.
“The Council provides a great venue and opportunity for young people in our community to grow more comfortable in sharing their unique talents,” said Legislator Anker.
The North Shore Youth Council was established as a grass roots organization in 1982 by local community volunteers. It offers comprehensive youth and family services and community education at little or no cost to members in the area. For more information regarding NSYC please visit www.nsyc.com.
