On Tuesday August 28th,
Legislator Steve Flotteron (R) – 11th Legislative District introduced
legislation to the five member Budget and Finance Committee in an effort to
create a Spending Task Force. Bill Number
1742 was unanimously accepted and will be put to a vote by the full Legislature
at the next general meeting on September 5th.
“I want to thank
Legislator Flotteron for asking the tough questions and bringing this
innovative plan to the Committee in order to address the mounting debt in
Suffolk County,” said Regional Director with Reclaim New York Initiative
Michael Watt.
The task force will take
an in depth look at Suffolk County’s spending. It will include seven members, from
the business community and government officials, in an effort to ensure an
unbiased view of the County’s finances being examined.
Legislator Flotteron was
committed to increasing transparency while serving as Councilman with the Town
of Islip and is dedicated to continue keeping a watchful eye on finances within
Suffolk County.
“An important benefit
of this task force is that it comes at no cost to Suffolk County tax payers,”
said Legislator Flotteron. “When the county is spending 160 million more a year
than it takes in; I believe it is time to come together and take a bipartisan
approach into looking at how we can better spend the county’s money.”
