Dyslexia Awareness Proc

HAUPPAUGE, NYSuffolk County Legislator Susan A. Berland (D-Dix Hills), presented a proclamation to the International Dyslexia Association’s president Dr. Concetta Russo and Vice-president Randi Burns in recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month in Suffolk County. The International Dyslexia Association is a non-profit education and advocacy organization devoted to issues surrounding dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a condition which causes persons to have difficulty with accurate word recognition, spelling and decoding abilities. Those with dyslexia often have average to superior intelligence, excelling in math, science, law, fine arts, journalism and other creative fields. Early diagnosis of dyslexia is critical in ensuring that individuals with dyslexia receive focused, evidence-based intervention that leads to the promotion of self-awareness and self-empowerment.

“I am honored to present the International Dyslexia Association with a proclamation in acknowledgment of Dyslexia Awareness Month and appreciation for all of the hard work they do to help those with dyslexia,” said Legislator Berland. “As someone who has dyslexia, I can say first hand just how important organizations like the International Dyslexia Association are in helping children with dyslexia reach their full potential.”
