Suffolk
County Legislator Susan A. Berland, Chairwoman of the
Legislature’s Veterans Committee, was proud to sponsor IR
1768 A Local Law To Provide Property Tax Exemption For Certain Veterans Who
Participated In Operation Graphic Hand which passed unanimously through the
full Legislature at the November 20, 2018 General Meeting. This resolution
provides property tax exemptions for Reserve Component veterans activated by
Operation Graphic Hand, a joint military operation executed through
Presidential executive order in March 1970. Due to a postal worker strike in
New York City, active duty and reserve service members facilitated mail
delivery in the New York metropolitan area to avoid a national mail crisis.
“I am proud
to have sponsored this resolution to provide some economic relief to those who
have served our Country,” said Legislator Berland. “I want to thank my
colleagues on the Legislature for their support of this resolution and for
recognizing that Suffolk County veterans are entitled to the same benefits as
their counterparts in Nassau County. Honorable service is honorable service,
and those veterans who were activated by Operation Graphic Hand deserve the
benefits they are now entitled to and we thank them for their service.”
