Wyandanch, NY – Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory was on hand to congratulate and present a proclamation to local resident Michael J. Karam at his Eagle Scout award ceremony, held Friday, Jan. 11 at the Copiague Middle School. Michael is a member of Boy Scout Troop 284, based in Copiague.Eagle Scout is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America scouting program. With this achievement, Michael is among the small percentage of young men in the Boy Scouts of America who have reached this prestigious level. Since the inception of the Eagle Scout award in 1912, only about two percent of eligible Scouts have earned this honor.For his Eagle Scout project, Michael planned, designed and constructed a 25-foot flagpole, memorial monument and flowerbed at the Plainedge Soccer Field in memory of members of the Plainedge Soccer Club who have passed away. The project took 235 working hours to complete.
